The Universal Century (UC) is the main timeline of the Gundam franchise. It is set in the 21st century, after a devastating war between Earth and its colonies in space. The third era, the Neo Zeon Wars, is the setting of the Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ anime series and Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack film. The Neo Zeon Wars were fought between the Earth Federation and Neo Zeon, a successor state to the Principality of Zeon. The wars ended with the defeat of Neo Zeon, but they also saw the death of Char Aznable, one of the most iconic characters in the Gundam franchise.

The fourth era, the Succession Wars, is the setting of the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime series. The Succession Wars were fought between various factions vying for control of the Earth Sphere. The wars ended with the intervention of the Sleeves, a group of Zeon remnants who sought to restore the Principality of Zeon.

The fifth era, the Reconguista in G, is the setting of the Mobile Suit Gundam Reconguista in G anime series. The Reconguista in G is set 100 years after the end of the Succession Wars. It follows the story of Bellri Zenam, a young man who pilots the G-Self, a Gundam that is said to be the key to peace in the Earth Sphere.
